About

Like many Scots, I started out as a life-long Labour voter who was intending on voting NO to the idea of Scottish Independence in the 18th Sep 2014 referendum.

Then a good friend who helps me run The Galilean Society, a Glasgow-based popular-science society named after the great scientist Galileo which aims to promote the role of evidence in science, challenged me to look at the evidence for independence.

I accepted, looked at the evidence and completely changed my mind! I'm proud to say I voted YES, proud to say I joined the SNP in the immediate aftermath of that inconsolable loss, and proud to say I voted for the SNP in my Airdrie & Shotts constituency in the general election of 2015.

We even devoted two of our Galilean Society talks to highlighting the evidence for independence (but, for some reason, our NO-voting friends were mysteriously busy on those days...).

You can follow me on twitter @scottitics and you can also follow the man who changed me into an independence-SNP junkie via the Galilean Society twitter account @GalileanSociety (run by Ian Mackay).

See you on the Twittersphere!
