But who's going to stand up for England, boo-hoo-hoo?

The general election result was clear by Friday morning: the Tories had won, the SNP had stormed to victory in Scotland, and both Labour and the Lib Dems had been slaughtered. In the BBC Question Time program later that evening, featuring Alistair Campbell and Paddy Ashdown, amongst others, a young lady in the audience asked this question:

"Alistair, you keep talking about the fact that David Cameron came out after the referendum and talked about English votes for English laws. If it’s OK for the SNP to consider the interests of the Scottish people, and OK for Plaid to consider the interests of the Welsh people, who is considering the interests of the English people? It doesn't seem anybody."
And on that last sentence, she reinforced her grievance that no one stood up for England by shaking her head.

Paddy’s response was appalling, going on about “some voices” in the SNP engaging in “destructive nationalism” and that “what now worries me is I see the same thing developing in our country. We now have an English nationalism: a destructive form of English nationalism building up…”

Does no one in England understand that Scotland sees Westminster as being an English parliament? Out of the 650 MPs Westminster has, 533 are English. That means 82% of all MPs are English MPs.

To the lady in the audience, the answer is simple: Westminster considers the interests of the English people!

As it's always done - why else do you think so many in Scotland want either Home Rule or Independence?
